3 Quick tips to make sure you get the best out of your surf…

If you’re new to surfing, it can be hard to know where to start when planning a surf session. Follow our checklist of the Three Things to do Before Surfing to set you on the right course.

1) Check the Surf Conditions

Ensure the tide, wind and surf conditions at your area are suitable for your abilities. Check the surf conditions in advance online by visiting surf forecasting sites such as  Magic Seaweed and Surfline to name a few.

2) Check your Surfing Gear

Checking that your surfboard and equipment is in working order and appropriate for the conditions only takes a minute and is your responsibility as a safe water user.

  • Is there any damage to the surfboard?
  • Is there enough wax your board?
  • Is your leash attached properly and fit for use?
  • Is your Surfboard matched to your abilities and the conditions?

Surfing a board that is too small for your ability is the quickest way to slowing your surfing progression. Read more about staying safe in the water in our guide to Surf Lesson Safety.

3) Pick a Surf Spot

Deciding where or when to surf should be dictated by the sea conditions and the level of your surfing. Ask yourself a few questions:

  • What is going to be the best for you to surf given the conditions?
  • When is the best time to surf that beach?
  • What time of day will the tide give you the best waves?

Surfing the right conditions with the correct board will give you confidence in the sea and will allow you to enjoy happy and safe surf lessons Newquay.
