A Few Words About Us
IN THE BEGINNING...
HI, My name is Jorrin (Jey) and I'm the Director and founder of Cornish Wave.
As a young guide and instructor, the dream was always to one day, own and run an adventure business and live a life in the pursuit of time well spent in the great outdoors.
Our Journey
How it started…
Like many of us who have fallen in love with a place and its people, it was a short unplanned trip to Newquay, which ultimately led to the start of what is today Cornish Wave.Originally from South Africa, I moved to the UK and completed school and some 6th-form college before the itch for adventure took hold. Before I knew it, my belongings were packed in boxes and I was starting my first season in Europe. And thus the start of the love affair with seasonal travels, guiding and instructing in as many places around the world as possible!
Years down the line, the sometimes sunny town of Newquay started to become more and more familiar, and with a tight group of friends, the place eventually became home. Needing to fill the gaps between seasons, coupled with the career-long itch to own and operate a business, Cornish Wave Mobile Surf School was born.
How it's going…
Fast forward 11 years and I'm proud to say Cornish Wave is going strong, and although no longer mobile and working out of a van, I'm still just as excited to be running my very own little adventure business in Newquay. What started with surf lessons has grown to include coasteering, kayaking, paddleboarding and our surf and yoga retreats. Each season brings new growth for both the business and myself. With our fair share of twists and turns, highs and lows, running Cornish Wave has truly been an adventure in itself.Thanks for joining us along the way….

Our Base

Our Facilities
Our activity base at 40 Fore Street, Newquay was completely rebuilt in 2026, purpose-designed as a surf school and activity centre rather than adapted from something else. Inside you'll find spacious indoor changing rooms and heated showers, plus an outside changing area for getting straight in and out of wetsuits. We've also got a small retail shop and a cold drinks fridge on site, and you're right on the doorstep of Newquay's coffee shops and food outlets.Upstairs, we operate two boutique guest stays for anyone joining our surf camps, adventure weekends, or just visiting Newquay: Studio Fore, a newly built surf-inspired studio sleeping up to six with custom bunk beds, a kitchenette and its own bathroom, and a smaller Surf Loft double room with a private bathroom and separate entrance, perfect for two. Both sit seconds from Towan Beach and a short walk from Fistral, and guests staying with us get 10% off surf lessons, coasteering and kayaking.
